Strategic expansion of living and workspaces

Back to overview
DERECO Impuls 5

HafenCity in Hamburg is a modern example of how you can create space within a city to generate a better experience, more housing and jobs. In fact, this new district was established in a former port in the middle of Hamburg in 2008, following the example of the London Docklands – in other words, new space was developed, central Hamburg has grown by approx. 157 hectares. HafenCity is the largest inner-city development project in Europe. The plan is to develop room to accommodate some 12,000 people and up to 45,000 workplaces by 2020. Sustainable building concepts and new approaches to mobility are part and parcel of the project. Hamburg’s HafenCity is set to become a hotspot for culture and arts – last but not least, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall is one of its new landmarks. Numerous events and activities take place in HafenCity.
